Implementing ISO TC211 Standards
ISO TC211 is the ISO Technical Committee Geographic Information / Geomatics that develops the ISO 191xx family of standards for the field of digital geographic information.
SCAR has liaison status to the TC211. This allows us to actively participate in the development of the ISO 19xxx family of standards. We seek to ensure that emerging standards are comaptible with, and adequatly represent the requirements whithin the Antarctic science community.
The ISO/TC211 website and a presentation produced by ISO/TC211 gives you more background information on the activities.
Currently we have a closer look at a range of standards including:
- ISO 19110 (Methodology for Feature Cataloguing)
This standard relates to the development of the SCAR Feature Catalogue. Of interest to this work is also the emerging work on Cross-Domain Vocabularies (TC211 Project 146) - ISO 19111 (Spatial Referencing by Coordinates)
Here we promote the inclusion of parametric coordinate systems in order to better support scientific data sets - ISO 19112 (Spatial Referencing by Geographic Identifiers)
This standard relates to the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica - ISO 19115 (Metadata) and ISO 19139 (Metadata - XML Schema Implementation)
These standards are crucial in order build spatially enabled portals for data discovery
