OGC Specifications
From a technical point of view AntSDI is build on a service oriented architecture. The geospatial web services for AntSDI implement open standards and specifications of the OpenGeospatialConsortium (OGC).
Current available web services include
- OGC Web Map Services (WMS): these can be used for the portrayal of geospatial data with OGC compliant clients (most GIS packages and a plethora of browser-based map viewers).
- OGC Web Feature Services (WFS): These can be used to access geospatial data, both the geometry and the attributes of objects. The data is delivered in GML.
In the future we strive to implement
- OGC Web Coverage Services (WCS): These can be used to access mutlidimensional raster data.
- Styled Layer Descriptors (SLD): These define how spatial objects are displayed. SLDs can provide a consistent and shareable symbology.
- OGC Gazetteer Services (WFS-G): These provide gazetteer services for place name searches and geoparsing. The specification for these services is a profile of the more generic WFS, hence the acronyme WFS-G.
